Souper Socials

Friends Offering Opportunity to Dine (F.O.O.D.)

A bowl of soup, a plate of food.

They can be evidence of caring and an invitation for sharing. Midland’s Open Door has a new FUNdraising opportunity that supporters can host to tell the story of how we help people who see almost no options in their life, the Souper Social.

Souper Socials began in the summer of 2013. Three women set aside time at their home to invite friends to share a simple meal and some of the story behind what we do at Midland’s Open Door. A total of 74 guests attended these three gatherings.

Why do this?

Two verses in Matthew tells us why food is evidence of caring: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. (Matt 25:35-36, NIV)

The Open Door’s ministry is summarized in those few words. Souper Socials can give you an opportunity to share that story and show others how they can help those in need.

Where to start?

Hosting a Souper Social event is not something you have to do on your own. The hosts for last year’s events, Jo & John Winchester, Kelli Minardi and Margie Kozuch have helped put together a step by step plan, and there is help to make it happen.
